Mission Statement

As Disciples of Christ, the Mission Ministry Team is called to:  Witness for justice and peace, give testimony to the Gospel through our life together, reflect God’s love and mercy within our community of faith, and the community beyond, and to transform lives through action and service to others.

“But you, God see the trouble of the afflicted/ you consider their grief and take it in hand.” Psalm 10-14a

The Mission Ministry Team supports outreach and service opportunities in the Bloomington-Normal area.  On occasion we have also supported projects in other areas to help spread the light and mercy of God’s love. One of our ministries is the “Necessities” program, where the church collects new men’s and women’s undergarments and personal grooming items for donations to local shelters.  In keeping with this, we donated supplies to Neville House, a shelter to victims of domestic violence. The Mission Ministry also disburses funds raised through the St Luke Union Church recycling program.  On August 5th the Team chose to disburse $1000 to the Western Avenue Community Center, in Bloomington, and $500 to Faith in Action. Over the past 4 years we have supported Operation Stand Down, a program for homeless veterans, organized by Central Illinois Goodwill.  The 2014 event will he held on October 11, at Dozer Park in Peoria.  Operation Stand Down serves veterans from Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Decatur, and other local communities. The Ministry Team donated $1000 to the program for 2014, and is collecting gloves and eyeglass cases for distribution at the park. The team will meet again on November 4, 2014.  We are always looking for new members and new ideas.
